The short version: SymbiQ has no accounts, sets no advertising cookies, and stores your progress on your own device. The long version is below, and it is the whole of it.
Your progress through The Solver's Path, your streak on The Question, what you have earned in the games, any depth preference you set, the Noise and Decoder game's unlocks, best Storm time and sound setting, and, if you walk the 3D city, your avatar, a handle drawn from two fixed word lists, the qubits you found, the books you returned, the research papers you opened and your badge are held in your browser's localStorage. The city also lets two windows of the same browser see each other as avatars, through the browser's own broadcast channel, which never leaves your machine. That data never leaves your machine and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data deletes it permanently. There is no server copy to restore from, which is the trade-off for not asking you to make an account.
Some interactive features can be shared live with another person, in a room. For now a room connects windows of the same browser on the same device: they talk to each other inside your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere. What passes between them is positions and moves, never anything you type. If an online relay is ever switched on, this section will be updated first: the room code you type and the page you are on would then travel through a realtime service, which sees your IP address as any server does.
We use GoatCounter for analytics. It is cookieless and does not track individuals across sites. It records the page requested, the referring page, a coarse country, and a browser and screen-size category. It does not store IP addresses after processing and does not build a profile of you. This is why the site shows no cookie banner: there is no consent to collect, because there is nothing being set on your device for us.
Three forms are open on this site: the correction report, the Ledger's claim submission, and the creator application for Insight Notes, which asks for more — your name, field, educational or institutional background, and any links or a CV/writing-sample link you choose to give. All three are delivered to our inbox through Web3Forms, which passes the message on and does not retain it for other purposes. We only ever receive what you type into the form. An email address, or anything else you send us, is used only to review your submission and reply to you. It is never sold, rented, or shared.
The site is static and hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub processes the network requests needed to serve pages to you; their handling is covered by GitHub's privacy statement. We do not run a server of our own and hold no server-side logs.
Our Discord server is operated by Discord and governed by their privacy policy in addition to our own rules. What you post there is visible to other members. Nothing you do on this website is linked to your Discord identity.
SymbiQ is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live (under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the UK/EU GDPR, or similar law) you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to withdraw consent. In practice we hold almost nothing: an email address if you gave one, and whatever you typed into a form. Write to the address below and we will act on any such request, and in any case within 30 days.
If this policy changes materially we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing the page. The date below is the last substantive change.
Questions about privacy, or a request about your data: email the desk.
